Technical staff

After finishing my BSc in chemistry (specialised in biochemistry) at the Hogeschool Zuyd in Heerlen, I started working as a research assistant at the Metabolic Research Centre, Alg. Heelkunde, Maastricht University. The work was mainly focussed on the measurement of enriched isotopes with LC-MS and HPLC techniques. After almost four years, I started working at the Department of Biochemistry.

Since 2007 I have been working in the chemical protein synthesis lab of Prof. Hackeng. I am specialised in peptide chemistry: Boc / fmoc- solid phase peptide synthesis and native chemical ligation (NCL). Peptide-peptide interaction and structural function of peptides/proteinsis studied. Contrast agents and fluorescent peptides are synthesised to study cardiovascular diseas. A Xevo-Qtof-G2 UPLC-Mass spectrometer is used for studying all types of chemical reactions as NCL, peptide folding and peptide labeling. I develop new analytical methods as needed. A MALDI-TOF-TOF-MS is used for analysis and peptide/protein fingerprinting.

Several other HPLC systems (analytical scale, preparative scale and SEC) with UV-detection are used. As the lab manager I am responsible for safety in the lab, writing SOP’s, supervising students and all general daily routine.
