Wouter Verhesen

Technical staff

Wouter Verhesen was born in Sittard in 1981. After his secondary education in Roermond, he studied at Leeuwenborgh opleidingen in Sittard to become a Lifesciences laboratory technician. His internships at the Departement of Cardiology and Pharmacology at Maastricht University were awarded the 'Zilveren Vlam' by the Nederlandse Vereninging voor bioMedische Laboratoriummedewerkers

He graduated in 2005, and in the same year enrolled in the accelerated Lifesciences technician programme at the Hogeschool Zuyd in Heerlen. After his internship at the Medtronic Bakken Research Centre Maastricht, he graduated in 2007 and received a Bachelor degree in Lifesciences.  

Shortly after, he was invited to join the group of Prof. Stephane Heymans, where he is currently employed as a research technician at the Center for Heart Failure Research. His work focusses on maintaining and developing state of the art molecular techniques with a special interest area in high resolution fluorescent imaging of nucleic acids, such as miRNAs and lncRNAs. 

In his own time he enjoys hobbies in the popular science fields Paleontology and Astronomy, as well as the creative disciplines of art and photography.
