CARIM Postdoctoral Talent Fellowship awarded to Mitchell Bijnen
The purpose of this CARIM Fellowship award is to provide one year of funding for ambitious, talented PhD students that are close to finishing their thesis within CARIM. As part of the grant the post-doc is expected to go abroad to gain international experience with high-impact collaborators. Eventually the fellowship will support top CARIM talent and keep them connected to our institute.
The winner of this year's CARIM Talent Fellowship is Mitchell Bijnen (Department of Internal Medicine). Mitchell will spend most of the year in the lab of Marc Bajénoff in the Centre d'Immunologie de Marseille-Luminy in France. He will study stromal cell-macrophage interaction to learn more about the regulation of macrophage survival and function within tissues. The final goal is to apply this knowledge to the development of specific immunotherapy for the treatment of cardiovascular disease.
