World Thrombosis Day
Since 2014, October 13 has been WORLD TROMBOSIS DAY, a day dedicated to raising global awareness about thrombosis. Thrombosis can happen to anyone; every hour, 11 people are affected by it. In thrombosis a blood vessel becomes blocked by a blood clot. If such a clot detaches, it can lead to a heart attack, stroke of pulmonary embolism.
By awareness, targeted diagnostics and treatment significant health gains can be achieved.
In the Netherlands, and specifically in Limburg, we also pay attention to WORLD THROMBOSIS DAY. Therefore, the Heart+Vascular Centre MUMC+ and research institute CARIM are organising the programme for the 11th time, this year in collaboration with Vitala+.
Specialists from MUMC+ will give a presentation at Vitala+, the MUMC+ recovery centre, about thrombosis.
Dr. Kristien Winckers, internist and vascular medicine specialist, will explain ‘what thrombosis is’ and discuss its risk factors. Drs. Anissa Aarts, physician and researcher at the Thrombosis Expertise Centre, will delve deeper into the treatment of thrombosis.
The programme is open for public and will take place from 14.00 – 15.30 at Vitala+, Gronsvelderweg 140, 6229VN, Maastricht.
