New research laboratory: Stem Cell Research Unit Maastricht (SCRUM)

SCRUM will establish a core unit for the generation of iPSC lines and provide an environment to support iPSC research into various cells of the human body and can be used to eventually grow 3D tissue. This technology can be applied to the study of pathologies and the treatment of disease. The SCRUM is an example of Maastricht University's social commitment to the 3R initiative. iPSC research provides an endless supply of cells, from same genetic origin, that can serve to test drugs and genetic intervention treatments, without using animal models.
