New TEC leadership per 1 April 2025

With Prof. Hugo ten Cate reaching his retirement, the leadership of the Thrombosis Expertise Centre (TEC) will be transferred, as of 1 April 2025, to Prof. Henri Spronk (Dept of Biochemistry) and Dr Kristien Winckers (Dept of Internal Medicine). Together, they will continue to develop thrombosis as a key area within CARIM+HVC, expanding it into a multidisciplinary centre for high-quality antithrombotic management and translational research. Prof. Spronk will serve as interim head of the TEC, with dr Winckers acting as deputy head. Additionally, Prof. Spronk will take over the role of principal investigator (PI) from Prof. Ten Cate, with Dr Winckers serving as deputy PI.

The aim of TEC Maastricht is to bridge scientific research and clinical practice, thereby supporting the delivery of excellent patient care based on cutting-edge research. Since its establishment in 1974, the Department of Biochemistry at Maastricht University has maintained a strong tradition in thrombosis and haemostasis research. In addition to the study of mechanisms involved in primary and secondary haemostasis, the TEC provides support for fundamental, translational, and clinical research. This is made possible through the merger of CARIM and HVC, and is carried out in close collaboration with various clinical departments at Maastricht UMC+, the Trombosedienst Maastricht, and the Samenwerking Trombosediensten Limburg (STOL).
