Uyên Châu Nguyên wins UM Dissertation Prize 2025

Personalized care requires smart choices, especially for patients with heart failure, where pacemaker therapy does not have the same effect for everyone.

In her doctoral research, cardiologist and researcher Uyên Châu Nguyên focused on improving this therapy. She did so by better identifying which patients truly benefit from a pacemaker and by positioning the electrode in the left ventricle as optimally as possible.

Her research combines clinical practice with innovation: smarter use of the ECG for patient selection and the application of imaging techniques to improve device placement. This contributes to more personalized care and better treatment outcomes.

During the Dies Natalis of Maastricht University, she received the dissertation award for this work, a fine recognition of research with a direct impact on patient care.
