Introduction

Complex arrhythmias

The programme on Complex Arrhythmias is responsible for the fundamental and translational research on atrial and ventricular arrhythmias, as well as cardiac conduction disease. There is particular focus on the mechanisms of atrial fibrillation, understanding idiopathic ventricular fibrillation, and cardiac resynchronization therapy. Researchers within the Complex Arrhythmias programme employ state-of-the-art experimental and clinical models together with complex genetics, advanced imaging and computational approaches to improve mechanistic understanding of arrhythmogenesis and develop innovative diagnostic and therapeutic concepts and strategies. The Complex Arrhythmias programme collaborates closely with the Structural Heart Failure programmes, for example with respect to diagnosing and treating patients in whom arrhythmias or conduction disturbances lead to or enhance HF, and/or where arrhythmias result from underlying (cardio)myopathy and HF.
