Paul Roekaerts
Professor
Prof. Paul Roekaerts graduated as Doctor in Medicine in 1978 at the University of Leuven. He specialised in Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine at the University of Leyden. Since 1983 he is clinically mainly involved in Maastricht in the cardiac surgical and critical care patients. In 1997 he obtained his PhD on his research on adrenergic receptors in myocardial ischemia. In 2010, he was appointed Head of the Department of Intensive Care Medicine at Maastrivht UMC+. In 2013, he became Professor of Intensive Care Medicine.
His current cardiovascular research is mainly focussed on 'extra-corporeal life support' (INCEPTION trial with ZonMw Grant) and 'microcirculation' (Rescar and Cytosorbents Grant).
