In 2024, CARIM introduces the Anna Maria van Schurman Stipend, aimed at encouraging and supporting female researchers, named after the acknowledged ‘first female Dutch student’.

The project 'Impact of COVID-19 protective measures and shielding in vulnerable patients with kidney failure', coordinated by Prof. Marc Hemmelder and Drs Pim Bouwmans (Dept of Internal Medicine), has been granted by ZonMw. 

Dr Henri Spronk (Dept of Biochemistry) has been appointed as professor of ‘Biochemistry of Atherothrombosis’ as of 1 May 2024.

The Dutch Heart Foundation has awarded researcher Dr Matthijs Cluitmans a Dekker Senior Scientist grant.

NWO has awarded a Veni grant to Dr Job Verdonschot.

Stef Zeemering, Aaron Isaacs, Joris Winters and Uli Schotten received this year’s Joan and Douglas Zipes Publication of the Year Award 2024 in Heart Rhythm at the Heart Rhythm Society Meeting in Boston.

Dr Victor Thijssen (Amsterdam UMC) and Prof. Rory Koenen (Dept. of Biochemistry) obtained a grant from NWO ENW on the functional interactions of galectins and chemokines and their roles in immune defense and inflammation.
